A Fatwa of Mawdudi

Question

Mawlana Mawdudi was asked the following question: does putting medicine into the ear break the fast or not? He replied: it does not break it. The questioner then asked: and by having an injection? He replied: by having an injection the fast will break. The questioner asked further: if a wasp stings a fasting person, so that by the sting a liquid substance reaches his body (like an injection), what is the ruling?

Answer

When someone asked Mawdudi for a fatwa, he replied: “Ask some mufti for a fatwa; here I speak of the matter of the religion.” Someone had said to him: “You have given a fatwa on such-and-such thing,” to which he replied: “I have never committed the error of giving a fatwa.” In one place he has written: “I do not have the honour of being included in the class of the ulama.
