The Ruling on the Jamaat-e-Islami and the Books of Mawdudi

Question

Concerning the Jamaat-e-Islami, some people say that it is a very good jamaat and that a correct understanding of the religion is acquired in this jamaat. But some of my friends say that this jamaat is not good and that one should keep away from it — although I have read several of their books and, on the face of it, noticed nothing objectionable. I request you to state the ruling concerning this jamaat, so that the people here may find guidance.

Answer

Sayyid Abul A‘la Mawdudi, the founder of the Jamaat-e-Islami, did not acquire the knowledge of the Qur’an and hadith in a regular way from recognised teachers; most of his information comes from his own reading.
