The School of Thought of the Jamaat-e-Islami
Question
Members of the Jamaat-e-Islami used to hold their weekly gathering in a certain mosque; at the gathering these people used to study Tafhim al-Qur’an, then hadiths, and then the Khutubat (“Sermons”) of Mawdudi. People associated with the Tablighi Jamaat, by creating an uproar right in the mosque, had this gathering of the Jamaat-e-Islami members stopped, saying that these people are misguided ones who have strayed from Islam, that they are kafirs, fasiqs, and so on.
Answer
Concerning the Jamaat-e-Islami of Mawdudi, it has already been written in the adjoining fatwa — please look at it. This Jamaat should not be called kafir; no fatwa of kufr has been issued [against it]. The Tablighi Jamaat must refrain entirely from calling [anyone] a kafir; it is by no means its business to issue a fatwa of kufr.
