A Gathering in the Mosque on the Tenth of Muharram

Question

This mosque belongs to the Ahl al-Sunna wa-l-Jama‘a. May a memorial gathering for Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn ﵄ be held in the mosque on the 10th of Muharram, at which both Shi‘a and Sunni gentlemen will recite?

Answer

Reciting the Holy Qur’an in order to convey reward to Hazrat Hasan and Hazrat Husayn ﵄ is correct both inside the mosque and outside it, and it is a means of reward. However, holding memorial gatherings specifically on the occasion of Muharram is not correct — neither in the mosque nor outside it; therefore such gatherings should not be held in the mosque.
