The Difference Between a Ta‘ziya, a Mosque and the Ka‘ba

Question

One person said: what they make as a ta‘ziya (a replica of Imam Husayn’s tomb carried in Muharram processions) is [mere] pieces of wood and paper; there is no reward in it, that is, it is futile. In reply to this another person said: just as the ta‘ziya is a bid‘a and is made of wood and paper, likewise the mosque is made of clay and the noble Ka‘ba of stone, so they too are bid‘a. What is the ruling of the Sacred Law regarding this? (2)

Answer

(1 and 2) Whoever calls the mosque and the noble Ka‘ba a bid‘a does not understand the meaning of “bid‘a”; he is an ignoramus. A deed which the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions ﵃ performed regarding it as [an act of] reward, and whose merit is [stated] in the Holy Qur’an and the noble hadith, can never be a bid‘a — it is pure reward.
