A creditor disgracing the debtor
Question
Question: For his son’s wedding Zayd borrowed some money, grain and the like from Bakr. After the wedding Zayd, owing to some constraint, could not repay the debt and the grain, and Bakr began to disgrace him here and there — within the biradari (a kinship or caste community) and outside it he began to disgrace him everywhere, so much so that even at functions and weddings he defamed him, called him dishonest and said God knows what else.
Answer
There will certainly be a reckoning with Allah Most High. Bakr had, and still has, the right to recover his debt. It is incumbent upon Zayd to repay the debt or have it forgiven; otherwise there will be a severe seizure. In this world too there will be the right to recover it from his estate (tarika).
