Repaying what is owed to a non-Muslim
Question
Question: If a Muslim owes a debt to some non-Muslim (kafir) and repaying it has become impossible, what way is there to be freed from that obligation? Kindly write with the books and pages.
Answer
He should have it forgiven if he does not have the means to repay it; otherwise he will be taken to account: [ar]وفي فتاوى قاضي خان: رجل له حق على خصم فمات ولا وارث له، تصدق عن صاحب الحق بقدر ماله عليه ليكون وديعة عند الله تعالى يوصلها إلى خصمائه يوم القيامة. وإذا غصب مسلم من ذمي مالًا أو سرق منه فإنه يعاقب به يوم القيامة؛ لأن الذمي لا يرجى منه العفو، فكانت خصومة الذمي أشد.
