A Form of Auction
Question
Question: I have a commission shop for timber, where I auction the goods of those who bring them from outside. From the one whose goods I auction I deduct commission and make payment immediately; and from the one to whom I sell the goods I take commission; and I take equal commission from both sides.
Answer
It is correct for the auctioneer to take commission (an auction fee), both from the owner of the goods and from the buyer; but it is necessary to avoid interest. Therefore, if someone does not pay the sum by the fixed term, interest must not be taken from him.
