Selling wine and the like

Question

Question: A man trades in wine through a Muslim or a non-Muslim, makes the wine himself, and also trades in a smoking mixture of tobacco and hashish, and in opium. What way of permissibility is there for this in the pure Shariʿa?

Answer

The sale of wine is not permissible; this is explicitly stated in the books of fiqh, in al-Bahr and others. Trading in the smoking mixture, opium and the like is also prohibited and makruh.
