Buying and selling intoxicating substances
Question
Question: Is it permissible to trade in opium, spirit and similar intoxicating substances, for example cannabis and the like, or not? If they are used as medicine — externally or internally — is it permissible or not?
Answer
Four kinds of wine are haram, and trading in them is also haram. As for the other things that are intoxicating, using them as medicine, in a quantity that does not cause intoxication, is permissible in case of need; and trading in them is not haram, but it is makruh.
