A free extra thrown in with a sale
Question
If someone buys some goods, and the buyer asks the seller, besides the purchased item, for some other item, which is called a free extra, and the seller gladly gives it, is it permissible to ask for and take this free extra?
Answer
This free extra is part of the sale; therefore, if it comes to returning that item, the free extra will also have to be returned. In such a case the custom of giving free extras ought to be abandoned.
