Attending Shrines, Tawassul and the Like

Question

I myself am a sinner: I go to shrines, I recite the Holy Qur’an by the graves of my father and forefathers, and I also go to the shrines of other revered awliya (saints) and ask them for help, [saying]: “You are righteous and pious servants of Allah Most High; pray for me that God may make me a Muslim in the true sense, that God may keep me happy and prosperous, and make the Muslim nation righteous and united, amin.

Answer

Among these things there is nothing on account of which you should — God forbid — be declared a kafir or one who has left Islam. Praise be to Allah, you are a Muslim; do not let even the thought of kufr enter your heart. May the Pure God — for the sake of Hazrat the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — keep you ever firm upon Islam and ever protected from kufr, amin!
