Making the Rounds of Shrines

Question

The Gracious Lord says in the Holy Qur’an: “Follow Muhammad ﷺ.” How, then, has making the rounds of shrines and asking [there] for one’s wishes entered Islam?

Answer

Making the rounds of shrines in order to ask for one’s wishes is wrong and contrary to the Sacred Law. However, encouragement has come [in the hadith] to go to the graveyard for isal al-thawab (conveying reward to the dead) and for lessening the love of this world.
