Fatiha for the Martyrs of Karbala
Question
In our village a certain man used to take out a ta‘ziya (a model of Imam Husayn’s tomb carried in Muharram) every year. Now he has stopped this practice, and instead he performs the fatiha for the martyrs of Karbala and distributes food and clothing to the poor. Is there any harm in this?
Answer
Stopping the ta‘ziya was very necessary, and so he stopped it — praise be to Allah for that (فالحمد لله على ذلك). Conveying reward (isal al-thawab) to the martyrs of Karbala or to other great personages and relatives, without any fixed restriction and stipulation, is correct and a cause of reward.
