The “Salawat-e Taj”
Question
How is the recitation of the “Salawat-e Taj” (“The Blessing of the Crown”) to be regarded? For it contains the words “dafi‘ al-bala’ wa-l-waba’ wa-l-qaht wa-l-marad” (دافع البلاء والوباء والقحط والمرض — “the repeller of calamity, epidemic, famine and disease”) and the like, and a great deal has been written about the merit of this salawat. When and by whom was it composed?
Answer
Its origin is not known — who invented it [is unknown]. The merits that the ignorant common people relate about it are sheer absurdity and falsehood. The forms of salawat that occur in the hadiths are certainly superior to the “Salawat-e Taj”; moreover, it contains some expressions of shirk, and therefore it should be abandoned.
