Healing by Sitting Near a Tree
Question
Here there is a mahua tree (an Indian Madhuca tree with edible flowers). Many sick people go to it and recite salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ there. A certain state comes over the one reciting: the patient who is going to recover begins to move toward the tree, while the patient who is not going to recover remains seated. Many people have tested this by experience. So is going to this tree permissible or not? If someone has been ill for a long time, may he go to this tree or not?
Answer
The encouragement to recite salawat, and its merit, are established from the Noble Qur’an and the noble hadith. It should be recited as much as possible — at home, in the mosque, and even while walking about. But going and sitting beside this particular tree is neither established by the proofs of the Sacred Law, nor is it a matter of wisdom (hikma)
