The Difference between Trickery, Karama and Mu‘jiza
Question
A certain person performs feats of trickery, calls them karamat and mu‘jizat, and attributes all these tricks to the Islamic Shari‘a. He says: “Everything that happens at night and all the events that are to happen in the future are manifest and clear to me; I have jinn or subservient spirits in my possession, and they bring me all the news.
Answer
No one besides God possesses the entire knowledge of the unseen; whoever claims it is a denier of a definitive text (nass qat‘i). Neither is it permissible to make such a claim, nor is it permissible to hold such a belief about anyone besides God.
