Karama and Its Manifestation from a Wali
Question
What is called a karama? Is it necessary that a karama be manifested by every perfect wali?
Answer
A supernatural occurrence (kharq al-‘ada) that issues from a righteous member of the Umma who follows the Sunna is a karama. It is not necessary that a perceptible karama issue from every perfect wali; rather, he possesses istiqama (steadfastness on the straight path) of the highest degree, which the ‘arifin (those who know Allah) have called “above karama” (فوق الكرامة).
