A Person Who Foretells Certain Unseen Matters

Question

A certain person said about a child that he would live only two months — and he really did pass away after two months. About a girl he said: “You will not be able to see the well-being of your son, and after five months you will die” — and she too died after five months. About my wife he said: “Seven blows (attacks) will come upon you; either you will die at the first blow, or at the fifth.” Now five blows have already come upon my wife. We are distressed. What is the ruling of the pure Sacred Law in this matter?

Answer

To throw people into distress by telling them such things is a very wrong way. The Prophet ﷺ never said such a thing about anyone. No one but Allah the Exalted has true knowledge of anyone’s death. Knowledge obtained through indications (qara’in) or through some kashf (spiritual unveiling) is not a proof in the Sacred Law.
