A vow to go out for a Tablighi chilla
Question
Question: Zayd made a vow: “If such-and-such a matter of mine is accomplished, I will give one chilla (a forty-day outing with the jama‘at) in tabligh.” Now we would like to know: Zayd has a great deal of farming work; if he sends someone else for the chilla, or spends in the path of Allah as much money as the chilla would cost, will Zayd’s vow be fulfilled or not?
Answer
Setting aside the question of whether a vow to give a chilla in tabligh is concluded, the benefits of a chilla are attained fully only by going oneself; by sending someone else or giving money that is not achieved. Caution (tanbih): if, because of going out for a Tablighi chilla, the household cannot be managed and there is a shortfall in the obligatory rights (huquq wajiba)
