Is likening the lawful to the unlawful an oath?
Question
Question: If someone likened lawful food to the unlawful, saying: “If I eat this yoghurt, it will be swine for me” (یہ دہی اگر میں کھاؤں تو میرے لئے خنزیر ہو گی), is this an oath or not?
Answer
It is not an oath. [ar]قوله: إن فعله فعليه غضب الله أو سخطه أو لعنته، أو هو زانٍ أو شارب خمر أو سارق أو آكل ربا، ليس بيمين[/ar] “His saying: ‘If he does it, then upon him be the wrath of Allah, or His displeasure, or His curse,’ or ‘he is a fornicator, or a drinker of wine, or a thief, or a consumer of usury (riba)’ — is not an oath” (Multaqa al-Abhur, p. 554).
