Ruling: Mashbuh (doubtful)

Description

Selenium in food: sodium selenite, selenate, hydrogen selenite, selenious acid, L-selenomethionine, selenium yeast; in China also methylselenocysteine, selenium protein, mushrooms and carrageenan with selenium. Selenium itself is a by-product of copper refining, whose electrolyte receives bone or hide glue and hydrolysed casein (species not named).

Basis of the ruling

Selenium for fortification comes as sodium selenite and selenate, L-selenomethionine, selenium yeast and other forms. Selenium itself is a by-product of copper refining: bone or hide glue is added to the copper electrolyte, and the animal species is not named.
