Pasta, noodles — is it halal?

Ruling: Mashbuh (doubtful)

Description

Pasta and noodles as an ingredient. The base is flour and water; egg noodles contain egg. In the EU E471 and E322 are allowed in fresh pasta, Group I additives (including E471) in noodles; in the EAEU E471 is allowed also in soft-wheat pasta. Deep-fried instant noodles contain 15–22 % fat; in the ingredients the fat may be called “animal” without the species.

Basis of the ruling

Pasta and noodles are made from flour and water; egg noodles also contain egg. They are fried in "cooking" or "frying fat", which may contain rendered animal fats, and the ingredients name it only by this general term. The finished product does not show whether this was used, so such a product is doubtful (mushbooh)
