Description

Dodecyl gallate: esterification of gallic acid with dodecanol, lauryl alcohol under acid catalysis, removal of water and excess alcohol, crystallisation. Gallic acid comes from hydrolysis of tannins of nutgalls or tara. Possible links: the aphid Melaphis chinensis and its excreta inside 五倍子 galls (tannin raw material); the fatty alcohol, which can also come from animal fat (tallow)
