Giving fitra to minors

Question

Is the fitra discharged by giving it to poor, orphaned, destitute minor children or not?

Answer

If the poor are minors, it is not permissible to give them sadaqat al-fitr, but it is permissible to give it on their behalf to their guardian. And if those children are discerning, it is permissible to give it to them themselves as well. If those children are (children) of a wealthy person, it is not valid to give to them in any way. In al-Durr al-Mukhtar (vol. 2, p. 127)
