Spending zakat and fitra money on something other than its proper recipients

Question

Is there specification (ta‘yin) in rupees and paise (small copper coins, fractions of a rupee) or not? For Zayd spent zakat and fitra (sadaqat al-fitr) money on something other than its proper recipients, and says: “Later we will gather that much money from somewhere.”

Answer

If those who gave the zakat and fitra permitted this, Zayd may do so; otherwise it is not permissible, and in that case the zakat and fitra will not be discharged.
