Those to whom zakat may not be given
Question
Please write down the people to whom zakat should not be given.
Answer
“Usul” (ascendants) — mother and father, paternal grandfather and grandmother, maternal grandfather and grandmother, etc.; “furu‘” (descendants) — son and daughter, son’s son and son’s daughter, daughter’s son and daughter’s daughter, etc.; “zawjayn” (spouses) — husband and wife: zakat must not be given to these relatives, while it may be given to the remaining relatives.
