A set of clothes given to the imam — is it zakat?
Question
If someone gives the imam or the muezzin of a mosque money or cloth as a gift in the blessed month of Ramadan, but does not say that it is zakat property, what is the ruling now for the one receiving the gift? Should he accept the gift without inquiry or should he inquire, [in case] that property was in fact zakat and the recipient was not entitled to it?
Answer
What people usually give the imam or the muezzin in blessed Ramadan by having a set of clothes made for them is not from zakat money. As long as there is no predominant supposition (zann ghalib) that it is zakat, there is no need to inquire into it.
