The zakat money was pickpocketed — what is the ruling?
Question
A person calculated his wealth and so on, took out as much zakat as was wajib on him and set it aside. Then someone picked his pocket, or in some way his zakat money was lost. In this situation, has his zakat been discharged, or will he have to pay it again? Please also state the ruling on lost fitra money (sadaqat al-fitr).
Answer
In this way neither the zakat nor the fitra has been discharged; let him pay the zakat and the fitra (Shami).
