Paying a Pension to a Teacher of an Arabic Madrasa
Question
Is it permissible in Arabic madrasas to pay a pension from donation money or not? This proposal was once put before Hazrat Aqdas Thanawi ﵀, and Hazrat raised this Sharʿi objection: the pension that will be paid — what will it be a compensation for? Therefore the matter needs consideration.
Answer
Donors give donations for religious education. It is proper to spend them on the needs of the students — food, clothing and so on — and on the salaries of teachers and employees; those people give their donations with precisely this understanding, that they are spent in these areas. A pension is not even conceived of in their minds, nor do they give for that purpose.
