Giving a Teacher One Hundred and Fifty Rupees and Taking His Signature for Two Hundred
Question
A religious madrasa is affiliated with the government, and the teachers’ salaries are fixed according to the government scale, under which the government gives the teachers, through the manager and the madrasa, half of their salary, a dearness allowance and so on. But the manager and the managing committee forcibly take ¼ (one quarter) of this amount from the teachers, and if any teacher is unwilling to give it, he is silenced with the threat of dismissal.
Answer
This conduct of the managing committee is lying, it is a breach of trust (khiyana), dishonesty and oppression; the teachers are the wronged party. To the extent that they bear it patiently, they will be rewarded. As for this deducted money, it is neither proper for the managing committee to keep it for itself, nor does it have the right to spend it on any work of the madrasa.
