Endowing Land and a House as Waqf for a Madrasa in Madina al-Munawwara
Question
(1) My father endowed as waqf, by way of a gift (?), one plot of cultivated land and one plot with a house for the Madrasa Shar‘iyya located in Madina al-Munawwara, and appointed the director of the Madrasa Nadwat al-‘Ulama in Lucknow as overseer, so that he would send the income from the land and the house to Madina al-Munawwara year by year.
Answer
I have looked at the copy of the enclosed document: it is not a will but a waqf deed. The waqif reserved for himself the disposal of the income of the endowed property for his lifetime, then appointed a mutawalli (trustee), specified the purpose on which the waqf is to be spent, and bound him to it.
