Preaching in the Mosque while Seated on a Chair

Question

Most scholars have the legs of a chair washed and then preach inside the mosque seated on the chair. Some people say that preaching while seated on a chair is impermissible. Therefore, kindly inform these people in the light of the Sharia: is it permissible or impermissible for scholars to preach inside the mosque seated on a chair?

Answer

In Sahih Muslim (vol. 1, p. 287) it is mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ sat on a chair in the mosque and spoke about matters of religion; the legs of the chair appeared to be of iron. Imam al-Bukhari ﵀ has also mentioned this in al-Adab al-Mufrad (p. 210). Objecting to something established by the noble hadith stems from lack of knowledge.
