Spending on a Mosque the Wages for Making Brushes from Pig Bristles
Question
(1) Is it permissible or not to spend on a mosque the money of those who make brushes from pig bristles? And what about eating at their homes? (2) Those who are employed in a brush factory and make brushes — is it permissible or not to spend their money on the mosque and to eat their food?
Answer
(1), (2) The mere wage for making brushes, on the terms “work for such-and-such a length of time and the compensation for it will be such-and-such,” is correct and not haram; that money may be spent on the mosque as well. However, one should not enter into such a transaction as such, because benefiting from pig bristles is impermissible according to Imam Abu Hanifa ﵀.
