Demolishing a functioning mosque to make an Eidgah
Question
Question: And what is the ruling in the Shari‘a on demolishing a functioning mosque and making an Eidgah (a ground for the Eid prayer)?
Answer
Demolishing a functioning mosque in which the congregational prayer is held at all five times, in order to make an Eidgah only for the prayers of the two Eids, is not permissible, especially when an Eidgah already exists. Firstly, because this causes the desolation and disuse of the mosque.
