The Caliphate of Yazid

Question

How was the imamate of Imam Husayn ﵁ established, and when was there a consensus (ijma) on his imamate, and on what basis was he called an imam? When Imam Hasan ﵁ gave bay‘ah to Amir Mu‘awiyah ﵁, then in what did the imamate remain? And of the two, Husayn ﵁ or Yazid, who was the rightful caliph? If Imam Husayn ﵁ was the rightful caliph, then why did the scholars count Yazid among the “twelve caliphs”? See “Sharh al-Fiqh al-Akbar”, p.

Answer

As far as I have understood, the brief substance of your question is these matters: (1) Is the imamate of Imam Husayn ﵁ established, or not? (2) Was Yazid the rightful caliph, or not? If he was, why did Imam Husayn ﵁ rise up against him? If he was not, why was he counted among the twelve caliphs? (3)
