The Life of Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya

Question

How many times did Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁ marry — once, twice, three times, or more? And how many children did he have from each wife? Please write them down with their names. Were there daughters among the children, or not? Also: was Imam Hanif born from one of the wives — that is, is he the son of Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁, about whose valour a book called “Jang-nama Muhammad Hanif” (“The Book of Battles of Muhammad Hanif”) has been written? Is this correct or not?

Answer

It appears that the real question concerns Imam Hanif specifically. The answer is this: there is no one by this name among the children of Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁. As long as Hazrat Fatima ﵂ was alive, Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁ contracted no other marriage; after her passing he married several times, and many children were born from these marriages.
