Did Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya Avenge Hazrat Husayn?

Question

Regarding the vengeance that Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya took after the martyrdom of Imam Husayn ﵁ — was he too involved in it? Please state this clearly in writing.

Answer

Hazrat Muhammad ibn al-Hanafiyya is the son of Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁. His mother's name was Khawla bint Ja‘far. In the battle of Yamama his mother was taken captive and came to Hazrat ‘Ali ﵁ as his share of the spoils of war — thus in “Tuhfa Ithna ‘Ashariyya”, p. 43.
