Is Hazrat Khidr Still Alive?

Question

Is Hazrat Khidr ﵇ alive, or has he already passed away? A certain man claims that Hazrat Khidr ﵇ has already passed away, and that holding him to be alive is kufr; and that the well-known accounts of some people said to have met Hazrat Khidr ﵇ are in fact not [encounters with] Hazrat Khidr ﵇ but with Satan. It is therefore necessary to establish whether he is alive or not, and whether what this man claims is correct — please give an answer with references to books.

Answer

The view of the majority of scholars is that Hazrat Khidr ﵇ is alive; some, however, hold that he has already passed away. [ar]قَالَ ابْنُ الصَّلَاحِ: هُوَ حَيٌّ عِنْدَ جُمْهُورِ الْعُلَمَاءِ، وَالْعَامَّةُ مَعَهُمْ فِي ذَلِكَ، وَإِنَّمَا شَذَّ بِإِنْكَارِهِ بَعْضُ الْمُحَدِّثِينَ وَتَبِعَهُ النَّوَوِيُّ.
