Was Khidr a Prophet, and Is He Alive?

Question

Was Hazrat Khidr ﵇ a prophet? And is the very Hazrat Khidr ﵇ who accompanied Hazrat Musa ﵇ still alive today? If there is any proof of this from the Qur’an and Hadith, please inform us.

Answer

The preferred view is that Hazrat Khidr ﵇ was a wali (a righteous friend of Allah); his account together with Hazrat Musa ﵇ is mentioned in the Noble Qur’an. The hadith scholars do not hold him to be alive; the Sufis, however, do.
