Nine questions and their answers

Question

Question: A man left his wife and went away to earn his living. The woman formed a relationship with the husband’s brother, and because of this relationship the woman became pregnant. Upon this the husband broke off relations with her. The father of the said wife decided that she should be married to this brother. Her maternal aunt had the woman placed somewhere else; now, having come here, she gave birth and began to live in his house, and also entered into married life. This went on for a year.

Answer

(1) It is a major sin. (2) Talaq has not taken effect merely by his refusal. (3) Nor has the nikah ended by this. (4) Placing with any non-mahram is also impermissible. (5) This too is disobedience (ma‘siya). (6) This is a wrong on the husband’s part; he should give talaq to the unworthy woman. (7)
