The Ruling on the Words “Divorcee of Divorcees, Talaq, Talaq”

Question

My mother said to me: “Give talaq to this ‘divorcee of divorcees’” (اس طلاقہ کی طلاقہ کو طلاق دیدو). Thereupon I immediately said in anger: “Divorcee of divorcees — talaq, talaq” (طلاقہ کی طلاقہ طلاق طلاق). Apart from this I said nothing else. Kindly inform me whether talaq has taken place or not.

Answer

By saying this, two talaqs have taken effect according to the Shari‘a. In this case, before the ‘idda (three menstruations) has passed, the husband has the right of taking back (ruju‘). Its best form is that he says with his tongue: “I have taken back my talaq”; then the nikah will remain in place as before.
