Cutting Off the Braid and Blackening the Face Did Not Bring About Talaq
Question
Hamid Khan’s wife used to engage in an evil deed. At first Hamid Khan intended to sell her and even struck a deal with people; she, for her part, was also ready to run away from home. Because of this Hamid Khan had become ready to cut off his wife’s braid, blacken her face, drive her out of the village and hand her over to a Bhangi (a man of the sweeper caste). One man threatened him, he did not seize (?); that woman began living with a stranger man.
Answer
If Hamid Khan’s wife used to commit evil deeds, she should have been reformed. Selling her, or cutting off her braid, blackening her face and handing her over to a Bhangi, is no remedy for this; rather, it is impermissible and a grave sin.
