What is the meaning of talaq according to the Shari‘a?

Answer

According to the Shari‘a, talaq is the name for lifting the bond of nikah by means of specific words, either immediately or in the future: [ar]هو رفع قيد النكاح في الحال أو المآل بلفظ مخصوص[/ar] “It is the lifting of the bond of nikah, at present or in the future, by a specific word” (“Tanwir”, vol. 2, p. 640).
