The Ruling on Wudu When Shoe Polish Remains on the Nails

Question

If, after polishing shoes, polish remains on the nails and the like and is not properly cleaned off, is there any harm in this for wudu and so on? For it contains an admixture of wax, and wax does not absorb water.

Answer

If only the colour and some greasiness remain, this does not impair wudu — just as when oil has been applied and water is poured over it. But if not only the colour and greasiness remain, but wax as well, through which water cannot reach, then neither wudu nor ghusl is valid.
