Is Tayammum Valid Even If No Trace of the Clod Comes onto the Hand?

Question

Must the clod of earth for tayammum be such that its particles crumble off and soil the face and hands with earth? If no trace of earth reaches the face and hands, will the tayammum become a substitute for wudu?

Answer

Even if not a single particle of the clod of earth comes onto the hand, the tayammum will be valid.
