Tayammum on a Mosque Wall Because of the Worsening of an Illness

Question

A man who is 65 years old has for 7 years suffered from an ailment — rheumatism of the joints. When he performs wudu with cold water, the illness increases; for this reason he mostly performs tayammum. However, some friends object that one must not perform tayammum all the time. He is a man of business and cannot arrange hot water every time; in the mosques here there is no provision for hot water, and the earth for tayammum stays soft because of the rain, so he performs tayammum inside the mosque.

Answer

Since your illness increases from performing wudu, tayammum is valid for you. For tayammum, keep a large clod of earth or a brick permanently set aside and protected so that the rain does not affect it. Tayammum is also valid on a baked-brick wall and on stone. Do not perform tayammum on the wall of the mosque.
