Does the impurity of a hide return after tanning?

A hide whose tanning was done by means of the sun is lawful (halal), yet when it gets wet the impurity returns to it. What is the ruling on a Muslim buying and selling such a hide?

Answer

The most correct position is that the impurity does not return through getting wet. [ar]لا فرق بين نوعي الدباغة في سائر الأحكام، قال في البحر: إلا في حكم واحد، وهو أنه لو أصابه الماء بعد الدباغ الحقيقي لا يعود نجسًا باتفاق الروايات، وبعد الحكمي فيه روايتان، والأصح عدم العود[/ar] “There is no difference between the two kinds of tanning in any of the rulings.
