A Dog Fell into the Pool — So the Pool Became Impure!
Question
If a dog falls into the pool of a mosque and, having fallen, immediately comes out alive, what is the ruling? And likewise, what is the ruling on drinking the water of this pool? Even after it has been explained to them, the common people compel [us] to write an istifta' (request for a fatwa), so please shed light [on this].
Answer
If the length of the pool is ten gaz according to the Shar'i gaz (the gaz is a unit of length; the Shar'i gaz equals the cubit, dhira'), then if a dog falls into it, it will not be ruled impure. However, there is bound to be gossip among the common people, so if the pool is emptied and cleaned, there will then be peace of mind.
