What Is the Ruling on the Water If a Large Lizard Falls into a Well?

Question

In Bihishti Zewar (“Heavenly Ornaments”) it is written that if a large lizard falls into a well, the well becomes impure (with reference to al-Hidaya), while in Ta'lim al-Islam it is written that an animal which has no flowing blood — such as a fly, a mosquito, a wasp, a lizard, an ant — does not make [the water] impure by dying. In short, how is a small one to be told apart from a large one?

Answer

The large lizard is not found in towns; it lives in the wild, and even then only in some regions. It has blood, and the well becomes impure because of it. The lizards commonly found in our parts are small ones. Confirmation of the answer — Mawlana Nizamuddin The answer is correct.
